Where the deer and the antelope play…

Back home and down with a thud.

While I was away…. my big nasty conglomerate of an employer, decided to amalgamate the functions of some of their call centres and abolish some others… and you don’t get three guesses as to who lost their job in that little shuffle!   Found out about it while I was still in Turkey, but didn’t get wound up over it…. and certainly didn’t allow it to affect me in any tangible way, nothing radical like refraining from buying expensive carpets or anything.  😐

Anyway, I get to work this morning and the place is like a morgue… no one wants to be there… everyone knows their time there is limited…. and people who were previously fond of doing dodgy things are now doing dodgy things – openly.  Customer service has plummeted, call stats likewise taken a substantial hit, and moral is lower then I’ve ever seen in a work place.  One guy said it was like the fall of Saigon but with less helicopters……..

But even so, (and possibly because my expectations were so horribly low) I actually had a pretty good day….. after I spent the first hour fighting with system passwords – we have about a dozen different systems with as many password and all mine had expired!  So between fighting with passwords and having pretty much forgetten the minute amount of technical knowledge I thought I might have once had for fixing peoples internets*…. I think I did okay  :S

Need a new job  😐

* that is proving a hard habit to break…
all the ‘net cafes in Turkey had signs out front reading “INTERNETS”
and now I cant stop myself calling it internets plural!??!?!)

Customer Service … Customer Schmervice

After spending yesterday in a state of disenchantment with the establishment that I have the misfortune to find myself working for… today I got to spend 4 hours in a customer service training program.  Naturally the sessions were being run by someone who has little or no appreciation for what we are all actually doing out on the floor, and has little or no background in this actual field…   Fun fun fun!  Didn’t really learn anything new, but did give us a nice break from the phones.  🙂  So no one was complaining.

Don’t know why large corporations outsource their training like this – surely they’d be better off having their own people trained to train… no doubt the decision is based on dollars like everything else.

Crushed

I totally lost it at work today….  and I hate doing that!  I was literally frustrated to tears being stuck in the corporate treadmill between the Billings Dept and the Credit Management Dept  – you’d think they’d be one and the same thing … buy they’re fucking not!!!  All I knew is that the poor customer has no internet cos they’d locked his account for an outstanding account … and that account shouldn’t have been raised in the first place!  And neither of those departments wanted to take ownership of the problem and get it solved.  They’d rather waste my time bouncing me back and forth between the two departments.  So it went from CM to Billings to CM again, then back to Billngs, by which point I was well and truly ticked off… I got a chickie there who I was admittedly a little abrubt with (in that I told her it was an issue between Billings and CM and nothing to do with Tech Support so could she please help the customer?!?!) and she hung up on me!!!

Great customer service bitch!!!  Certainly put a downer on my day… felt totally deflated after that…..  🙁

Mac Guy vs PC Guy

A number of customers at work lately have mentioned ‘those MAC and PC’ ads lately when I’ve asked them to turn off the UAC in their Vista machines. Not wanting to sound like I’ve been living in a hole for the last few months, I’ve done a “Oh yeah, those… they’re clever aren’t they.” (insert smiling and nodding here) type response whenever someone’s bought them up.

Truth is… I haven’t watched free to air TV for a few years now, so had no idea what they were on about. 🙂 Thought I’d have a hunt for them, as Mr K said some of them were kinda amusing. Found a collection of them all in one clip… they are kinda cute. I particularly love the way the PC guy is so geeky… reminds me of Blogography Dave’s geeky Dave  No offence meant Dave!  🙂
