SMSessage conversation today :)

I’ve been shopping for a decent computer chair.  I suppose it’s something that someone with a bad back ought to have yes?  I found a good chair but they’re not so cheap…

RMB:   Found a very solid chair with decent lumbar support and steel base $440. Is that too much to spend?

KDB:  No such thing as too much with your back.

RMB:  You know I heard those lovely Tiffany & Co. Key pendants are good for back pain…   😀

KDB:  LoL. I am sure they are.  I could try getting you one for your fortieth birthday.  If you ever get there.  Have to get older to have a fortieth  😛

RMB:   Sounds good to me.    🙁

several minutes later…

RMB:  Hi all.  I’m getting in a few years early to beat the rush, and celebrating my 40th Birthday this weekend!!!  Be @ Azerbaijan @ 7pm this Saturday Feb 6th 2010.  As usual, cheesy goodness is on me and BYO booze.  See you all then!  🙂

KDB:  Who did you send that to?!?!

Coffee appreciation.

Four score and twenty years ago…

Well not really. Actually I don’t know how long ago, I’d have to go hunting to check…

*on hold music here*

Okay… two and a half years ago, i bought Mr K an espresso machine and I love it now as much as I did then. Which is to say I loathe it’s toadlike appearance in my kitchen as much as the stench and foul coffee drips that accompany it. What was I on about again? Oh yeah. Well, they are still selling the same model believe it or not. You’d have thought they’d have come out with one that has a glow in the dark milk frother or something equally unnecessary and frivolous to encourage rabid consumers to upgrade by now but surprise surprise they haven’t. It’s on sale at the moment at Myer… for the fantastic price of $719!

That’s the sale price people…. and here is the link to my purchase experience over two years ago for $530. Now if computers and TVs and DVD players and fans, and furntiture and all good things are all coming cheaper as time goes by… why is this coffee machine getting dearer?

And I thought shopping for groceries sucked ass!

Today I’ve been attempting to shop all day…. and what a fucking tedious and largely futile effort that has been.

Gyprock…
10mm or 13mm Ma’am?
Regular gyprock or Aquacheck Ma’am?
6000 or 5400  Ma’am?
For ceilings or walls Ma’am?

Stud adhesive…
Spray or the 900gm tube or the 5.5kg tub Ma’am?

Cornice…
55mm or 90mm Ma’am?
Classic, coved or contemporary Ma’am?

Cornice cement…
Is that the 45 or the 60 Ma’am?
10kgs or 20kgs Ma’am?

Cornice tape…
Is that the Paper Tape of the Easy Tape Ma’am?
75m rolls or 90m rolls Ma’am?

Steel corners…
How many internal and how many external corners Ma’am?
2400mm or 1800mm Ma’am?

Will you be requiring Base coat, top coat, Easy Finish Coat, Jointmaster, Easy Flow, Masonry Adhesive, Spray Adhesive, Fire Mastic, Gap Filler….   FAAARRRKKK!!!

And that was before I started on the mortar/cement and electrical shite….

Cement….
General Purpose, lime based, bleached or rendering Ma’am?
Do you require mortar dye with that Ma’am?

Sand (stupid me… fancy thinking sand is just sand)….
Will that be regular Brickie’s loam or B2 sand Ma’am?

Electicial…
100m of 3 wire white electrical cable…
Do you need 2.5 twin and earth Ma’am?
Is that 10, 15 or 20AMP Ma’am?

100m of 2 wire lighting cable…
Is that the 1.5 twin and earth Ma’am?
red and black one Ma’am?

and so it went on and on and on…. Coax cable, ethernet cable (1000ft to the roll???), gang plates, power points, light switches.  Sick to death of fucking shopping failures today.

But all was well with the world when I stopped in at David Jones late this afternoon on a whim and found that the Mor Belladonna Body Butter which was supposed to hit shelves in April had finally turned up and my faith in retail therapy was renewed   🙂

Borys’ Emporium of Impossible Acquisitions…

Earlier this week I was shopping for a camera for Yale, a laptop for Spoto, knuckle nail plates for Erick the Half a Bee as well as concrete roof tiles, a double glazed window and metal gutters and fascia bits for the finish of the roofline.  On top of that I’ve still got plenty of building materials to get and I’m also starting to look for furnishings because we all know how long the damn lead times are from order to delivery of furniture… so the sooner the better I think.  So I am shopping, shopping, shopping….

Building materials that I still need to get –
– roof tiles (on order delivery Friday)
– gutters and fascia (on order delivery Friday)
– double glazed window (on order delivery next tuesday)
– insulation
– gyprock
– cornice
– skylights (dude coming to quote next wednesday)
– plastering materials
– paints etc
– a gazillion miles of ethernet cabling and ports (see yale :P)

And then the pretties start…
– colour scheme (walls ‘Manilla Hemp to match the house)
– carpet (not sure. navy or burgundy to match or branch out with chocolate brown?)
– curtains (colour… curtain rods or tracks?)
– pendant or close to ceilling interior light  (can’t be in the way of the media projector)
– interior wall lights (one ceiling light won’t be sufficient for room this big)
– exterior carriage lamps  (elegant and not too glaring)
– sliding doors for wardrobes (innocuous and non-reflective – gold trim?)
– media projector ceiling mount (god knows what type?)
– power points  (lots of them – about 6 or so)
– multi-way light switches  (few of these too)

also looking for
– sofas or day beds  (need two)
– occasional tables
– entertainment cabinet  (one big low one I think)
– some sort of speaker solution

I hate shopping at the best of times…. at least these days a lot of it can be done online… yay!
