The Morning After Bill.

The Cirque du Soleil was excellent last night… but as predicted after sitting on those shitty seats (that were causing me pain at the time) I am really paying for it today.  I slept so poorly – tossed and turned all night and woke more times than I can count.  When I actually got up this morning, I was sleeping on my stomach and my pillows had been thrown out of the bed at some point… not a good sign.  This is really unusual for me as I often (especially when I’ve taken Valium etc) seem to wake up in the exact same position as I went to sleep in.  I also NEVER sleep on my stomach because of what it does to my neck – and well, because… you know… the tits kinda get in the way.  So yes, slept really bad and after levering myself out of bed and throwing down some drugs IMMEDIATELY… the day has sort of gone downhill from there.

I feel like I’ve spent most of my day going round in circles… make a cuppa, heatpack, stretchy exercises, try to read – can’t concentrate, try to watch a movie or something, fix something for the Small Child to eat, heatpack, get a neck rub, cuppa, get online to write some emails, try to read – can’t concentrate, make a cuppa, feed Small Child again, try more stretchy exercises, get online for a bit – try to do some banking and pay some bills, try to read – still can’t concentrate, play Wii with Small Child for a bit, another heatpack, try to do more stretchy exercises but pain is still really bad, damn I’m out of mid-range analgesics, call my Mum for a chat,  have some Valium, try to read again – really can’t concentrate now, get online – actively avoid shopping websites, Small Child hungry again, time for another heatpack, cuppa and eventually some Muppets which is about my speed at the moment.  😐

I am in so much pain I’ve spent most of the day 1) trying not to cry and 2) trying not to get cross with the Small Child.  I can’t stand, I can’t sit still, I can’t move my head properly, I’ve got a massive knot of pain in between my shoulder blades and seriously tense and painful neck and shoulder muscles.   I’ve been nervously fidgeting, twitching, clenching my teeth and tapping my feet or shaking my leg all day (don’t ask).

I’m fucked, I’m fucked, I’m fucked.    Sigh… I think if there had been a responsible adult in the vicinity I would have taken a hefty dose of morphine this morning and crawled back into bed.

Happy Birthday to me…

Yes it’s that time of year again… the birthday.  Seems the older we get the birthdays tend to creep up on you with alarming speed.  Not quite sure what happened to 2008 for example (but according to this journal I was obviously there 🙂 ).  I received lots of lovely emails and messages on Facebook wishing me a Happy Birthday etc which is really nice.  Most of us (me included) get very wrapped up in our busy lives and have an awful habit of forgetting friend’s birthdays.  So it’s kinda cool that Facebook reminds us so we can send sweet nothings.

I’ve had a busy day… had brunch on BigSal and Surly’s deck with the family and was feeling really kinda flat this morning.  Came home watched a movie and had a bit of a quiet afternoon before heading off to the Cirque du Soleil to see Dralion under the Big Top over at Hamilton with Yale!   I went once before to see Alegria back in 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Bluddy Mary and it blew me away.  The talent, hard work and creative vision that goes into these shows is nothing short of amazing.  So I’ve been very excited all week waiting for today to roll around.

We had amazing Tapis Rouge tickets which came with lots of fabulous gourmet nibblies and champagne etc, a copy of the program and souvenir copy of the show’s soundtrack…. and of course, fantastic seats* in the 2nd row close to centre stage!  From where we were sitting you could see the expressions on all the perfomers faces… the concentration and strain of the crazy feats they’re doing as well as the elation they obviously felt when they’d executed difficult manoeuvres.  Some of the acts were gravity defying gymnastics, some were masterful examples of extremely well timed acrobatics and some of them were passionate and soulful displays of dance, music, strength and creativity.  Parts of the show were so beautiful and so moving it’s actually quite difficult to find superlatives sufficient to describe them with justice.

It was an awesome experience that I’ll never forget and I am so glad I got to go…. I wish I’d had the good sense to see Quidam and Saltimbanco and Varekai when they were in Australia over the last few years.  So I’ve had a pretty amazing birthday and my friends and family have made me feel pretty special… which goes a long way to overcoming that dreaded sigh of inevitability that comes every year with the awareness of getting one year older  🙂

*The seats were perfect for getting a great view…
but I have an awful feeling my back is not going to thank
me for sitting still for so long on nasty bench type seats.

Like “P”s in a pod.

I’m getting old tomorrow… it’s all down hill from here. Keeping up the spirits by keeping up my lists. As per usual the ‘Dislikes’ are easier to come up with then the ‘Likes’.  I wonder why it’s so hard to come up with a list of things I like – I must be such a negative person… or maybe being in pain all day just makes you into a crotchey old bitch so being irritable and picking fault with everything around you just becomes second nature.  🙁  Gotta work on that.

List of 10 Things I Like That Start With "P"….

1.   Ptbtbtbtbtbt!!! – blowing raspberries by MSN or email  🙂
2.   Pizzaland Pizza – especially their Supreme Seafood pizza
3.   Pens – nothing like a nicely weighted pen to write with
4.   Perfume – Amor Amor is scent of choice these days
5.   Perez Prado – Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White
6.   Pashmina – a girl can never have too many
7.   Photoshop – God bless Photoshop remover of wrinkles and pimples.
8.   Pavarotti – goose bumps… so glad I saw his farewell tour show
9.   Pate – really nice pate on melba toast… yum
10. Polyamory – Restricting yourself to loving just one person and putting your entire life’s happiness into that one person’s hands because society or religion tells us to, seems unnatural and unrealistic to me.  Is any one person ever really able to be all and everything for another?

List of 10 Things I Hate or Dislike That Start With "P"

1.   Public BBQs – take your life into your hands if you use them.
2.   Politics – interested… just not passionate.
3.   PIA – ‘Inshallah we will be arriving at Islamabad airport at 5pm’  K
4.   Passwords – help!  I’m covered in passwords!
5.   Peppers – jalepenos, capsicums, chillis… not my thing.
6.   PCOS – harbinger of the slowest metabolism known to woman
7.   Pokemon – annoying little fuckers – hate they way they talk/squeal
8.   Pope – needs to get with the times… we still like him on a rope though
9.   Pop Tarts – have figuratively burned them in effigy numerous times
10.  Progesterone Poisoning – extreme nausea that is caused by spiking progesterone levels.  I had the seemingly benign and euphemistically named "Morning Sickness" when I was pregnant with the Small Child from week 7 right through to week 29.  Upchucked roughly about 3-7 times a day at any time of day.  It wasn’t "Morning Sickness" it was fucking Progesterone Poisoning!!!

It’s the bubbles of nothing that make it really something.

After last night’s late night slightly tipsy nissed as a pewt ramblings I thought I would lay low and say nothing of any consequence.  One could argue that is my normal MO anyway… and I’d be forced to agree for the most part.  So what do you write about when you don’t really want to write and risk putting one’s foot even further in one’s mouth?  Why you write about nothing.  And the best way to write about nothing?  Snavel a meme from somewhere (in this case from Kapgar the Great).
