Overworked – Underpaid – Over it!

I’ve been in the job for barely seven weeks, and I knew the biggest challenge I was going to face there was the fact that I am constantly relying on other people doing their jobs within agreed time frames to be successful at it.

Today I found out just how frustrating it was to have busted my arse getting all my ducks in a row, only to watch it all fall apart because someone else hadn’t done their job correctly.  The job was for a run of bank statements for one of my clients – a credit union, involving some  35,000 pieces of personalized mail, and a couple of inserts.  Earlier in the week, the client had sent through some changes to their statement proforma, which I had upadated in IT – proofed and approved and all happy.

But when it came time to do the statement run – the changes hadn’t been implemented.  So cos one guy downstairs didn’t put his changes into the production files – I end up missing a deadline and having to let the client know their work will be held up until Monday   🙁

Doesn’t feel good to spend your entire day working hard to pull something together and then at 10 mins before knock off time realizing that all your busting a gut to get it done can come unstuck cos someone else isn’t as meticulous as you might hope.  When it dawned on me that it had all gone to hell in a handbasket….. I felt totally deflated and my immediate reaction was to go downstairs and rip someone’s little head off.

But … there’s no fucking point really.   The IT guys won’t work harder for me in future cos I tore one of them a new asshole, and it certainly won’t get my client’s job done on time.  So I just kinda had to suck it up and go home.

🙁

Row ya bastards! Row!

Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I’m gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust

And while yet another of my colleagues resigns today… the Management keeps feeding us!  Yep that’s right – wine and cheese this afternoon…  Good lord – if one more person hands in their resignation, I reckons they’ll be shouting the whole team dinner at Two Small Rooms before we know it!

What the hell is going on here?  That’s like six people all heading out of the place now.. which no doubt is going to have a traumatizing flow on effect to those of us who are left behind…. fewer peoples, same amount of work.  And even some newbies turning up wont be of much help for weeks as we end up spending time training them.

What on earth have I gotten myself into here… think I’m gonna start looking for a nice cushy govt job with flexi-time … like right about next week.  :S

Stay of Care Bear Execution.

Since my Manager resigned, there’s been a definite feel of “well-what-the-fuck-are-we-all-doing-here-anyway” around the office, which, while not entirely unpleasant or unexpected, has seen the motivation around the place plummet like a lead balloon.

As a point of interest, which has nothing to do with what I was going to write – Management seems to think they can fix the morale issues with food!!  Go figure.  We’re a team of 11 women and 1 guy, and since the Customer Service Manager decided to cut and run last week, there’s been trays and trays of food turning up in our office just for the 12 of us – and for ‘no particular reason’.  Today’s effort of a massive tray of various cakes, slices and danish was pretty impressive – but I think they’ve got their target audience wrong.  A tray of yummies might stop the non-cooking, non-baking IT geeks from expressing how desperately unhappy they are, but my group are predominantly Mommies or Mommies-in- waiting…. and we already know how to placate discontent with food!  🙂   If Management  seriously thinks bringing a token tray of carefully selected muffins into the place will honestly distract people from the fact that we’re dreadfully understaffed, horribly overworked and  hideously demoralized … then I think they’re seriously deluded.

But as you all know, I’m ever the Eternal Optimist (hey, it’s my blog I can write what I want!) and have found an upside – the Great Customer Service  Care Bear disaster… has been shelved!!!

Yay for silver linings 🙂

Rats!

Things at my work have are fun at the moment!
Fun with a capital fucking “F” !!!

Today my … drumroll please… my Manager resigned.

Which would normally cause a little consternation about who our new boss is going to end up being – but as it is….this comes hot on the heels of MadMark, one of our Account Managers, resigning last Thursday…. which closely followed another Account Manager, KrazyKylie announcing that she is going to be moving to Mackay in about four weeks…. which works out to be roughly the same time frame Snr Account Manager, ClassyClare is scheduled to go on mat leave… which coincidentally was echoed by another Snr Account Manager, my Team Leader, JazzyJenny announcing earlier this week that she was up the duff too …

Oh and yeah, I almost forgot – another Account Manager – AmbivalentAngela was fired on Monday while I was out of the office.

So lets see… out of our little branch of eleven… six are leaving between now and mid Nov.  Yay for that!  I’ve been there for nearly a month and a half and am looking like being one of the old timers already!  😐

Hmmm….for reasons that evade me not at all…. I seem unable to shake imagery of rats and sinking ships from my minds eye….

God… someone hand me the classifieds!
